Carrefour Belgium

Carrefour Belgium

Carrefour Belgium has been active for several years to reduce its impact on the environment.

Several measures have been implemented to optimize the energy efficiency of existing stores. The Waterloo hypermarket, supermarkets of Eghezée or Maasmechelen have demonstrated that it is possible to significantly improve energetic and environmental performances of shops: all the measures taken have reduced energy consumption by over 30%.

Beyond continuous improvements made in stores, Carrefour is the first large retail chain in Belgium to perform the carbon footprint calculation of its stores. The objective is to identify the major sources of CO2 emissions and implement an action plan to reduce them. Concerning its franchisees, Carrefour offers and provides advice for improving their energy performance computing and reduce their CO2 emissions.

Carrefour is working with CLIMACT for the calculation of CO2 emissions and for the development of a coherent carbon strategy relevant to retail and logistics operations, as well as marketing positioning and communication.

Maud Leschevin, Marketing Director: "CLIMACT truly understands energy and sustainable development issues (and in particular CO2 emissions) which large retailers in general and Carrefour in particular are facing. Beyond their rigor, we appreciate the relevance of their recommendations and their contribution to developing comprehensive solutions for our stores and ultimately for our customers"

Groupe D?Ieteren

Groupe D?Ieteren
