Carbon neutrality

Carbon neutrality consists of cancelling out our impact on global warming.
It only has a sense within the limits defined for the prior analysis of this impact:

  • 1. On the one hand, there are direct emissions that result from the combustion of fuel oil or fuel.
  • 2. On the other hand, there are indirect emissions that can be generated by the consumption of electricity during its production in a thermal power plant or generated during production, marketing, transport, use, maintenance and the elimination of consumer goods.

On an individual level, everyone can make an effort towards carbon neutrality, based on the following steps:

  • 1. First of all, calculate your CO2 emissions. This involves making an inventory. How many tons of CO2 do we emit every year by heating our homes, offices and through travel? This is what we call our “carbon footprint”. The CLIMACT platform allows us to establish this footprint of direct CO2 emissions. We can also add the indirect impact of the consumption of imported products, services or even our investments.
  • 2. Then, a plan to reduce the emissions can be established: insulating our home, using public transport, sorting our rubbish, etc. This is the moment to choose actions that will reduce, sometimes significantly, our greenhouse gas emissions. Here too, CLIMACT will help you to quantify the impact of your efforts.
  • 3. Finally, since it is impossible to reduce all our emissions, CLIMACT proposes offsetting for residual emissions. We can commit to eliminating, in another place on the planet, emissions that cannot be reduced locally by financing clean technologies in developing countries.

The carbon neutrality process is gradual. The measures adopted to reduce emissions take a while to produce an effect. The immediate offsetting of all the emissions in the carbon assessment will allow us to reach a carbon neutral situation more rapidly because it directly eliminates the emissions that will only be reduced at a later date.
